Port Moody wraps around the end of Burrard Inlet with City Hall at the point. Some homes on the northside of the inlet have their own boat launches and magnificant view over the water. At low tide, you could walk from Rocky Point to Inlet Park on the otherside.
Port Moody is steeped in history. It is the location of the last railroad spike and celebrates that distinction with Golden Spike Days. The Golden Spike Museum is at Rocky Point Park on Murrary Street. West of the Museum is a street of historical significance.
It truly is the City of the Arts. Just check out their website for their summer Arts Festival.
Port Moody is great community with a dedicated Police Force of which I had priviledged of serving on their Police Board from 1993 to 1999. The last three years are commonly referred to the dark days of Port Moody. Information came to the Police Board members of inappropriate behaviiour that caused an investigation of the Police Chief as part of our compliance audit required under the Police Act.
Political fever took over and the Mayor of the day "suspended" the Police Board stating he was the only duly elected official. Nonetheless, three members of the Police Board continued our monthly meeting with no information from the leadership of the Police Department. We meet with lawyers, auditors, and hired our own lawyer. I dealt with media, and went on many ride-alongs. Upon receivng the audit report, we ordered an investigation. We rallied around the Police force to deal with the death of the Police Chief. I went on ride-alongs to consol the members and hear what they needed for a Police Chief. We hired the fantastic Chirf Paul Shrieve (now retired) who brought Port Moody to the proud and safe community it is today.
Through this unique experience, I can attest to the dedication of the Police members and the respect for due process from the elected officials who did not to meddle (they did not get the other side of the story until reports were released).
Now, Port Moody has a Mayor Joe Trasolini with an open door policy. He reserves one day of the week so the citizens of Port Moody can go to City Hall and talk to him. Councillors are open to hearing concerns.
Port Moody is a great community "by the sea." The housing options are many. How lucky are the folks living in the condo towers at the mouth of the inlet with unobstructed views?
